Sgt. Jesse Casarez served during WWII, at least for a time in Puerto Rico. He died, along with 21 other military and civilian employees when their DC 2-1/2 (C47) crashed into the mountains of Puerto Rico about 15 miles NW of the small town of Coamo. They were enroute to a staff meeting.
According to the accident report, visibility was affected by clouds and it was believed that the pilot of the plane was attempting to turn back down to the coast to proceed to San Juan. He was about 200' too low to make it over the tip of the peak upon which they crashed.
The remains of all who died were buried in Puerto Rico until after the end of the war, at which time they were exhumed and returned to the US for final burial.
There are four known adult children of those who perished, and if there are other family members, they can contact writer through this site.
