O.B. Carr III - Savannah -Oliver Baxter Carr III, 48, died Saturday at Candler Hospital. A graduate of Benedictine Military School and an avid golfer, he played on the BC golf team that won the region championship three years in a row and earned a golf scholarship to Columbus College. At Columbus College, he was the individual medallist in the South Atlantic Conference tournament, the first time a freshman had ever won the individual title. After school, he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard and was stationed at Eaton's Neck, N.Y. He returned to Savannah and entered the family business, W.J. Bremer Inc., where he served as operations manager of the ready-mixed concrete division. He continued to serve as operations manager when the division was later sold to Tarmac, then Blue Circle Industries. He resigned in 1999 due to health reasons. He was a longtime member of the St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee and a past president of Clan Na Erin. He was a past member of the Savannah Golf Cluband the Savannah Yacht Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver Baxter Carr Jr. and Mary Bremer Carr of Savannah. He is survived by his son, Oliver Baxter Carr IV of Savannah; a brother, William James Carr of Brooklet; sisters Mary Carr Mayle, Patricia Carr McIntosh and Gloria Carr Hance, all of Savannah, and Ann Marie Carr Swindler of Augusta. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m., with a Rosary at 7 p.m., Wednesday at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial: 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church on Wilmington Island, the Rev. Patrick O'Brien officiating. Pallbearers will be Jack Beytagh, Mike Beytagh, John Bremer, Johnny Fogarty, Ed McCuen, Bobby Sauers and O.C. Welch. Honorary pallbearers will be the Benediction Class of 1975. Burial in the Greenwich section of Bonaventure Cemetery. Remembrances: St. Mary's Home or Benedictine Military School. Savannah Morning News May 10, 2006.
