US Senator. He served as a Senator from Indiana for 18 years from 1959 to 1977 and briefly an anti-war candidate for president in 1972. Prior to being elected to the Senate he was the mayor of Evansville, Indiana. He was the first Indiana Democrat to serve three consecutive terms in the U.S. Senate and during his second term he was known primarily for his opposition to the Vietnam War. After his defeat for a fourth term by Richard Lugar, he opened a private law firm near Washington D.C. (bio by: Ron Moody)
