He resided in Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on January 11, 1942 in San Francisco, California. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Skilled pattern and model maker and also as Single, without dependents.

John was "Killed In Action" when his B-17 collided in mid-air with B-17 (#42-31605), while returning from a bombing mission in France, approximately 20 miles from their base at the Lucera Airdrome during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
