Death: 1878

Lotisa M. Jewell was born to Orrilla Shackford and Ira Jewell about 1836/1837 in Vermont. "Lotria" Woodward, 14, was living at Woodbury, Vt in 1850 with her mother, now Mrs. Samuel Woodward (FAG #53220078). (census, FamilySearch.Org). Lotisa must have taken her mother's 2nd marriage last name.

On August 20, 1853, W.B. Preston gives permission for his ward, Lotica/Latius M. Jewell to marry William Chauncey/Chauncy Preston (FAG #68307810) (Ohio County marriages, Family Search). Willard Bainbridge Preston (FAG#68307839) was born about 1816 in Vermont. His wife was Angeline Shackford, probably the sister of Orrilla Shackford. Living in Columbus Ohio, in 1850 and living next to W.B. & Angeline was W.C. Preston (census, Family Search). William Chauncey/Chauncy Preston, the bother of Willard Bainbridge, was born about 1814 in Vermont. Lotisa and William married on August 22, 1853 in Columbus, Franklin, Ohio (Ohio county marriages, FamilySearch).

Apparently, William C. Preston died in 1855, after being married to Lotisa for only two years and is interred in Green Lawn Cemetery, Columbus, Franklin Ohio (FAG #68307810). They apparently had no children together.

On August 27, 1856, Lotisa/Latisa M. Preston married Ira Downer Clark at Waterbury, Vt. (Vt vital rec, FamilySearch). Ira Downer Clack was born in VT on Oct 28, 1829 and died on May 12, 1864 during the civil war battle of Spotsyvania VA at the age of 34 years. They had three children together. Ezra C.Clark was born to Ira D. Clark and "Lotica" on August 18, 1857 at Waterbury, Vermont (Vt vital records, A second son, Prentis S. Clark, was born on August 25, 1859 to Ira Clark and "Lotica" Jewell at Duxbury (Vt vital records, FamilySearch). In 1860, three year old Ezra and one year old "Prentice" are living at Duxbury with Ira D. and "Latica" Clark (census, Fold3). A daughter, Annie Orrilla Clark, was born to Ira Clark and "Lotica" on September 11, 1861 at Duxbury (Vt vital records FamilySearch). Sadly, she succumbed to scarlet fever when she was just two. There are 2 Vermont death records for her (FamilySearch). One states that "Anna O"Clark, the daughter of Ira Clark and "Luticia" passed away on the 29th of March in 1864 at Duxbury. The other says "Orilla" Clark, the daughter of "D.D".Clark and L.M. died on March 30th. She is interred at Phillips Cemetery, Duxbury as Orilla A.Clark (FAG#53746953) along with other members of the Clark families. After the Civil War, a widow's pension (certificate #37413, Fold3) was awarded to Lotisa M. Clark and her 2 [surviving] children. Ezra C. would receive funds until the age of 16 on August 17, 1873. (Calculated birth date of August 1857). And Prentis S., being younger, would receive benefits until August 24, 1875. (Calculated birth date of August 1859). By 1870, "Loticia" had married Alonzo Hayden and Resided at Duxbury, VT (census, FamilySearch) with Ezra C.Clark, age 12, (born about 1858) and "Curtiss P " Clark, age 10 (born about 1860). The later is undoubtedly
Prentis S., there is no Curtis Clark. Happily, Prentis and Ezra lived long lives. were not living with Alonzo and Lotisa). Their names were Prentiss Shackford Clark(b. 1859 - )and Orilla A. Clark.(1861-1864)

Prentiss was the father of Alma Clark, who was mother of Robert Clark Collins, who was father of Mary Collins, who was mother of Catharine M. Becker-Skaggs. Info supplied by Catharine M. Becker-Skaggs

Lotisa M. Jewell Preston Clark, at age 32 married Alonzo Hayden on March 22, 1869 at Waterbury (Vt vital rec, FamilySearch). This was Alonzo's second marriage and Lotisa third marriage. They had two children together. James Hayden was born July 12, 1870 and died away on January 17, 1875 at Duxbury, Vermont from "canker rash" also called scartatina or scarlet fever. His baby brother, Ira A.L. Hayden #73213314, also died of scarlet fever 2 days later.

Alonzo Hayden (Her third husband and his second wife) committed suicide in 1876 per a newspaper article.
