The Electra New Thursday March 19, 1931

Rites Wednesday at Sheldon Home for C.A. Brown. Rev. William J. Spires, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, of which the deceased was a member, officiated in the funeral services held at the W.J. Sheldon home, Wednesday afternoon for Clarence A. Brown, age 80, whose death took place at Parmley-Ogden hospital shortly after midnight Tuesday morning. Rev. C.L. Bounds, pastor of the First Methodist Church, offered prayer, and a ladies sextet, composed of members of the Methodist and Presbyterian choirs, sang several selections. Totten Brothers were in charge of the arrangements and interment was in the local cemetery, by the side of the wife of deceased whose death occurred six years ago. The floral offerings were beautiful and profuse, mutely attesting to the esteem in which the deceased and members of his family are held in this vicinity. E. A. Ostrom, C. H. DeVault, G.M. Shaffer, J.C. Shaw, J.E. Warden and W.C. Poll were pallbearers, and members of the Chamber of Commerce, Rotary and Lions clubs attended in body. Stores and shops were closed and practically all business in the city was suspended during the hour of the services. Deceased was born in Hinsdale, New Hampshire, September 26, 1850, and moved with his parents, in childhood, to Minnesota. He entered railway service for the Chicago and Northern Railway company in early manhood, and was pensioned by his company after fity years of continuous service, at the age of seventy years. He was a member of the Order of Railway Conductors for about thirty-five years, and was never happier in his last days than when in company of those connected with or interested in the railway and telegraph service. He came to Electra in 1924 from Mankato, Minn., his former home, and since the death of his companion, made his home with his daughter, Mrs. W. J. Sheldon. Survivors are two sons, E.R. Brown, editor of the Electra News and president of the Chamber of Commerce; Ross W. Brown, Winona, Minn., now in the employ of the same company in which his father spent a greater portion of his life; one daughter, Mrs. Sheldon, who with her husband is closely identified with the civic, educational and religious development of the city; eight grandchildren, Wichita and Thrall Sheldon; Ernie D., Bert Allen and Jeanette Ruth Brown, Electra; Marlow, Gayle and Ronnie Brown, Winona.
