Birth: Dec. 23, 1775
West Lothian, Scotland
Death: Oct. 28, 1850
St. Lawrence County
New York, USA

William May Nicol II was second oldest child of the children born to William May Nicol I and Isabell Mitchell. He was born in Whitburn, West Lothian, Scotland. His father, William May Nicol I, died in Scotland.

On June 5, 1798 in Barony, Lanarkshire, Scotland William II married Agness Brounlie (Scottish spelling) Bronlee (English spelling), daughter of Robert Brounlie (1744-1828) and Janet (Jannett) Walker (b. 1749) born May 23, 1772 in Carluke, Lanarks, Scotland.

They had all of their children in Scotland, except the youngest, Jeannette, who was born aboard the Norris ship May, 1819. The passage across the ocean was more tedious at that time than now, as it took the Norris ( a sailing vessel) 3 weeks to cross. When they landed on the banks of Newfoundland on May 12, 1819 everything was covered in ice and the sailors had hard work to keep themselves warm. The trip up the St. Lawrence was made in Durham boats*. All were married and died in the USA except the oldest, Jennett Nicol who died in Scotland and only lived about a month.

The William May Nicol II family was the first generation to emigrate to the United States. They settled in Hammond, St. Lawrence County, NY, the last holdout of British soldiers after the American Revolutionary War. The British soldiers did not realize the war was over.

They had 11 children before they left Scotland and settled in Hammond, St. Lawrence County, New York. After William, a farmer, died (Oct, 28. 1884 in Hammond, NY, Agnes lived out her the rest of her life with her son, Robert Nicol, and his family also from Hammond, NY.
