Notes: Services for William O. Smith, 82, a teacher at old South High School for 39 years and head of the mathematics department at his retirement in 1954, will be at the Kennedy funeral home, Geneva, O., at 1 p.m. today. Graveside services will be at Knollwood Cemetery. Mr. Smith died Sunday in his winter home at Dunedin, Fla. He formerly lived in Shaker Heights and, more recently, in Geneva at 573 Blaine Street. He was a past president of the Cleveland Teachers Association and a member of the National Education Association. Survivors include his wife, Ruth, and a daughter, Mrs. Virginia Below.

William Orson Smith was born Nov 8, 1889 in Darby twp, Madison co., OH the son of Orson Elwood SMITH and Martha Ann "Mattie" BALDWIN. He died Dec 12, 1971 in Pinellas co., FL at age 82. He married Aug 1914 in Union county, OH, Florence J. Leonard who was born Sept 14, 1891 in Plain City, Madison Co, OH, the daughter of John and May Millikin Leonard. Florence died March 26, 1969 at age 77 and was buried with William in Knollwood Cemetery.

Their daughter, Mrs Virginia Arlene (Robert F.) Below of Brecksville, OH, was born April 12, 1917 in Cleveland. Her husband, Robert F. BELOW, a draftsman, was born Nov 17, 1913 in Lakewoood, OH the son of Charles F. Below & Olive M. Anderson. He died April 16, 2002 of Santa Barbara, Calif., at age 88.
