WASHINGTON - A. Adelma Bowes, 101, a longtime resident and caretaker of the Boston Post Cane for the town of Washington, died Friday morning, Sept. 25, 2009, at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport after a brief period of failing health.
Adelma was born Sept. 30, 1907, in Union, the daughter of Arial and Nettie Ludwick Linscott, and attended one room schoolhouses near her home, eventually graduating from Washington High School. She married Calvin Bowes June 16, 1926.
In 2002, she was bestowed the Boston Post Cane by the town of Washington in a brief ceremony at her home.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will take place at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2 at the Miller Yard in Burkettville. (Kennebec Journal 9/29/2009)
