On February 4, 2012, Heaven was blessed by the loving spirit of Rodney P. Bales returning home.
Born on June 23rd, 1954, with a good and loving heart, Rod lived with a zest to explore and experience life to its fullest.
He was a kind, gentle soul who loved people and was always eager to help anyone in need. Quick to laugh, Rod was a true renaissance man of many talents and interests and a jack of ALL trades.
Upon graduating West High in 1972, he served honorably in the military as a Marine. Among his many skills, Rod was first and foremost a licensed professional nurse helping people with his medical expertise.
He also was a cab driver, a bartender, he moved houses, worked with computers, and was an office manager among many other jobs.
Probably his most satisfying skill was carpentry, working with wood, building things and doing remodels. Rod enjoyed the great outdoors constantly riding his motorcycle and going camping and fishing.
Most of all though, he loved cooking for family and friends and enjoying a great cigar and a fine beverage.
Rod was preceded in death by his mother in Texas, as well as his loving wife, Cindy and leaves behind two brothers and a big circle of loving friends.
His memorial will be Wednesday June 13 at 1:30 p.m. at Ft. Richardson National Cemetery, JBER Alaska. Everyone should meet at 1p.m. at the Ft. Richardson Main Gate (Glenn Hwy) and follow the hearse escort so no gate pass is needed.
If you cannot attend, please pause Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. and think good memories of Rod, sending his spirit off with a prayer.
