Lieut George Wellsley Porter
Birth: Jan. 16, 1920
Marysville
Union County
Ohio, USA
Death: Mar. 18, 1943

George W. Porter was the son of John L. II and Rita (Hawley) Porter. He was a graduate of Marysville (Ohio) High School, Class of 1938. He attended college for 3 years prior to enlisting in the Army in 1942. He graduated officer school, gaining the rank of Second Lieutenant. For a short time he taught at the anti-aircraft/artillery school for the Army.

Much like his older brother John L. "Blackie" Porter III, he asked to be transferred to foreign service. George was assigned to lead an artillery unit during the invasion of North Africa. While preparing to go ashore, his sidearm accidentally fired, killing him. His older brother, a USAAF Captain, died later in the same year.
