My Mother...
************************************
Mom came from a family of twelve children, and I can remember as a young child being at my grandmother's house with all of the aunts and uncles. Mom and her sisters and brothers were very close and such hard workers. My grandmother was widowed twice, and left to raise all of these children by herself, and she did this by working hard, with little formal education.

Mom and Dad were married March 23, 1940.

Funny thing is my mother never learned to cook because her mother didn't want any kids in the kitchen when she cooked. Dad used to tell us stories about how he had to teach her to cook because he cooked in the Navy so he considered himself an expert, and he truly was a fantastic cook! Mom made, or tried to make, pear preserves from the pears on our tree one time, and put them on the stove to cook and then came outside with my sisters and I to play volleyball. Forgot she had the pears cooking of course, and by the time we went in to check they had cooked down to a hard lump. After a few hours when I went to clean the pot out, much to my surprise, they were crackly and broke into pieces that made the best "pear candy" you could ever put in your mouth.

In spite of all of her mishaps, Mom really did become a very good cook. We never lacked for good food, that's for
sure.

She was fifty-five when my Father passed away, and a few
years later she married Mr. Clark.

Mom's health started declining and limited her going out much any more and, sad to say, she never developed any hobbies or enjoyed reading, so her T.V. programs became her entertainment.

Mom developed cancer and when we found out she was terminal we decided she needed to know to be able to make decisions about how she wanted to handle her last days. She told me that her testimony was strong and she knew she would be with her Savior in Heaven. She went to a beautiful Hospice center in Port Orange, Florida, and we found out that there are truly Earth Angels in these facilities!

We took turns sitting with Mom and on one occasion, a few days before she died, I had pulled my chair very close to the bed up by her head so she could see me when she opened her eyes. At one of these times she looked at me and said,"did I die?"I said "no Mom, you're still here with me."So she went back to sleep. Woke up again and said,"am I going to have a funeral?"Yes Mom, you are."Then again,"I want flowers!"You will have flowers Mom!"And this may sound weird to most people when I tell you this last thing she asked me but we, our family, always did find humor in some pretty weird things. She asked me "when is the funeral?" I said,"well, Mom we really haven't gotten that set up yet, but you're not to worry, we'll handle that. So, in a nutshell, that's my Mom. She was an enigma in so many ways, but we had a good childhood and I thank her for that. Rest in Peace Mom, we will all be on the way soon.

MY MOTHER'S MEMORIAL..

My mother went to her heavenly home in the early hours the morning after Thanksgiving Day. The whole family spent Thanksgiving at the Hospice facility keeping a vigil for her. The angel staff fed us and comforted us, and today I thank God for that blessing.
