Indigenous Australian Soldier. Son of William and Bessie Rawlings. He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force on 20 March 1916 and embarked at Melbourne for active service abroad on 1 August 1916 per HMAT "Orsova" (A67). He was killed in action, aged 27 years.
Awarded the Military Medal for bravery during heavy fighting along Morlancourt Ridge 28-29 July 1918. The MM was awarded 18 days after Pte Rawlings was killed and appeared in the Third Supplement No. 31061 to the London Gazette on 11 December 1918.
"According to family sources he was awarded the MM for storming a German pill-box and using grenades to kill its eight or nine occupants and destroy a machine gun."
