Adopted, along with her sister, Shadow, from Animal Advocates in July of 1997 at about 7 weeks.
We had just lost Goldie, our previous cat of 20 years who had been hit by a car in June of 1977. We weren't sure we were ready but we were all so miserable and Dad was taking it extra hard so Mom and I went to an Adoption Day where we saw three mostly grey kittens from the same litter.
They allowed us to handle the two females while someone else was looking at the male. I had "Pumpkin" who I'd rename Smokey on the ride home and Mom was enchanted by "Celeste" with her cut little face and so tiny she fit in Mom's hand. As soon as they saw they had us hooked, the folks at the shelter said, "Get them both. They'll be company for each other."
We fell for that and brought both of them home but it took a few days for us to decide on a name for the littler one, who followed Mom everywhere, like her "Shadow".
Strangely, while they did play together as kittens, they rarely slept together and as adults they spent most of their time at opposite ends of the house by their own choice.
Smokey, who initially would sleep on my bed only when I wasn't in the room, became my best bud and would sleep with me every night.
