Birth: Nov. 8, 1798
Stokes County
North Carolina, USA
Death: May 16, 1872
Wise County
Virginia, USA

Farmer. Nicholas was the son of Jesse Horne and Nancy Langley. Jesse came to Russell Co., Va. from North Carolina. Jesse's first wife was Susan Milton. After the death of Susan, Jesse married Nancy Langley (b. 1775 in S. C., d. 6-14-1855 in Scott Co., Va.). Nicholas married Nancy Donahue in 9-1823. Around 1830, they moved to the part of Russell Co. which later became part of Wise Co. in 1856. They lived in a small log house they built 2 miles west of Coeburn. They later built a larger house across the road. It was said to be the finest house in the area for some time. Several of Nicholas and Nancy's sons fought for the Confederacy in the Va. 64th. Inf. Reg., Co. H. Charles Horne died at the Battle of Gauley Bridge; Jesse Horne died during the Battle of the Wilderness. While he was buried on the battlefield and his grave marked, he was disinterred and buried in an unmagked grave in Fredricksburg with other "unknown" Confederate soldiers.
