James Seay was a Civil War veteran who later worked for the railroad. He was a section foreman for the Central of Georgia railroad. He grew up in Quitman County, GA,and was a member of the Methodist Church. He was a Free and Asserted Mason and was buried with full Masonic honors. He was married to Ella Lancaster, also from Quitman County, daughter of Thomas and Molly Lancaster, of English descent. The Lancasters owned a plantation near Hatchers Station there in Quitman County.Seay's daughter Annie Tom Doster is buried in Union Baptist Cemetery in Miller County GA. He had two other daughters, Ila and Bertie Mae. Ila married George Dansby and Bertie married Bishop Dansby.
