Thomas Riley Gilbert, son of Richard J. and Elizabeth Gilbert, was born in Richwoods, Missouri December 19, 1879 and departed this life at Greenwood County Hospital January 1, 1957 at the age of 77 years and 12 days.

He came to Kansas with his family at the age of five years, settling at Dexter, Kansas, for a number of years, then moving to a farm five miles east of Newkirk, Okla., where he grew to manhood. At the age of 24 he was married to Jessie Brown at Newkirk.

In 1920 he moved his family to a farm near Neal, Kansas, where he lived until his death. The last six years of his life he was an invalid.

He leaves to mourn his loss Mrs. Gilbert of the home; seven children, Richard J. Gilbert of Neal, Kansas; Leo Gilbert, Chicago, Ill.; Eugene B. Gilbert, Dallas, Texas; Theodore R. Gilbert, Billings, Montana; Inez Boone, Toronto, Kansas; Ruth Lindamood, Quincy, Kansas; Eula Bolson, Belpre, Kansas; two sisters, Nora Lewis of Newkirk, Okla., and Mrs. Lou Darst, Ponca City, Okla., sixteen grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews. Up until his illness he led an active life as a farmer and stockman. He leaves many friends and will long be remembered by his family and friends.
