|Death: ||Aug. 25, 1826|
Re the location of the cemetery: Thanks to fellow Find A Graver mrs for clairfying that this cemetery, once listed incorrectly on F.A.G. as being in Rushville, is in fact in Union Twp, Rush Co, northeast of Rushville.
Patrick McCarty probably was born in Maryland, and he presumably was in Hamilton Co, OH, when his wife, Rebecca, gave birth to their daughter, Elizabeth, there in December 1797. He was a taxpayer in Hamilton Co, OH, in 1798. He apparently came to Indiana in 1806, when he had a land entry in Franklin Co, IN. He was in the 1807 census in Dearborn Co, IN. He was received as a member of Little Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Franklin Co, IN, and was foreman of a jury in Franklin Co, IN, in June 1811. In 1820, he was listed in the census in Fayette Co, IN. On 25 Nov 1824, he and his wife, Rebecca, sold land in Fayette Co, IN. He probably died in either Fayette Co, IN, or Rush Co, IN. He is said to have been buried in Fairview Cemetery. The late Olive Russell Love, herself a descendant of Patrick, said she had seen a marker for him years ago in Fairview Cemetery but that it had since disappeared.
Following Patrick McCarty's death, his widow, Rebecca, married (2nd) on 9 Nov 1826, in Rush Co, IN, Jacob Hackelman or Hackleman, sometimes identified as Johan Jacob Hackelman or Hackleman.
An additional wrinkle: Thanks also to fellow Find A Graver mrs for pointing out that buried in Fairview Cemetery is Patrick McCann, who died 25 Aug 1836, age about 45. Her Find A Grave memorial for McCann shows a photo of the tombstone, and the name is clear. To have Patrick McCarty die on 25 August and Patrick McCann die on 25 August, exactly 10 years to the day apart, seems too much of a coincidence to be believed. On the other hand, the land sale date (25 Nov 1824) and the widow's remarriage date (9 Nov 1826) do provide convincing proof that Patrick McCarty did die in that two year period -- perhaps just not on 25 Aug 1826. Can anyone cast more light on this?
