Actually, the George Elwood who served is more likely to be George W. Elwood's cousin, George Andrew Elwood (married to Nancy Conaway), who died January 19, 1863, of measles near Vicksburgh, MS while on board the Steamer Pembina and buried on an island in the middle of the river. Nancy's widow's pension filing and other army records available on Fold3.com have the details and they line up much better with George Andrew than George W. "
