Leonidas Tucker, son of William Harrison and Mary Ann Tucker, was born in Terry Haute, Ind., October 14, 1847; and died in Lamont, Oklahoma June 29, 1921. Early in life he moved with his parents to Marysville, Iowa, where July 19, 1873, he married Florence M. Weller, who with four children, Harry J. Tucker, Alice Cole, Arch Tucker, Orpha Thompson, ten grandchildren, and one brother, Hiram Tucker, survive him.
About twenty years age, Mr. Tucker moved to Lamont, Oklahoma, where he engaged in the hardware business, exemplyfying all that stood for strong progressive citizenship, and true business principles.
Early in 1865, he enlisted in the Civil War and served to the close, being a member of the 33 Iowa, Company B, Volunteer Infantry.
Thirty years ago, he surrendered his life to God in Christ and became a member of the Methodist Episcopal church to which he paid unstinted devotion to the very last hour he fell into the arms of his blessed Master and Lord. Brother Tucker never faltered when an issue of right was at stake. He stood for righteousness in the earlier days of the developement of this community when it was unpopular to do so, and when few had the courage to stand by him.
He lived to see the rewards of courage and sacrifice. Full, well has he merited the, "Well done good and faithful servant, enter thou into the joy of thy Lord." We shall see his form walk these streets no more but over yonder by faith we shall see him clothed with immortality walking the streets of the New Jerusalem.
