Mustered out on 22 Sep 1861 in Annapolis, MD.
Enlisted in Company G, Massachusetts 3rd Heavy Artillery Regiment on 20 Oct 1863.
Mustered out on 16 Feb 1864 due to disability.

Enlisted with his cousins, George Cheney and Lyman Flagg Thurston.

His parents were Joseph Cheney and Betsey Fay (Newton) Thurston of Holden. He had several siblings: Lysander, Simon, Willard, Jane R., Lucella, Henryetta and Loren.

Winslow married first, Sarah L. Ross on 22 Sep 1866 in Lancaster, Worcester, MA. Her parents: Asa and Clarissa Ross. Winslow and Sarah had one son, Albert Elroy, born in Princeton, Worcester, MA. on 3 July 1867.

He married second, Abbie E. (Bacon) Morse on 24 Aug 1891 in Worcester. Her parents: Charles and Eliza (Leathers) Bacon. Winslow and Abbie had no children. They are buried next to each other in the Morse Family Lot.
