Died after a brave battle with cancer.
The youngest of nine children, he was born Nov. 13, 1930 in Coeburn to Adolphus W. and Ila J. Addington.
He spent most of his life in the Gospel ministry and education.
In a ministry spanning 50 years, he was a full-time pastor of five churches, including Memorial Baptist Church in Bluefield, VA, and served as interim pastor of several area churches. He was an administrator and professor at Bluefield College, his Alma Mater, for 19 years.
He graduated valedictorian from Coeburn High School; with honors in an Associate of Arts Degree from Bluefield College; magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Carson-Newman College; and obtained a Bachelor of Divinity from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and a Master of Guidance and Counseling from Appalachian State University. He will be remembered for his love of family and of sports, and will be missed by all who knew him. It can be said of him that if you were blessed to have him as a friend, you had a friend for life. His humble, sincere and faithful service to the Lord touched many lives.
