Aunt Mary's birth name was Mary Maliawsky. She became a Roman Catholic Nun and was then known as Sister M. Veronica Patricia, O.Carm. She belonged to the Order of Carmelite Sisters who minister to the Aged and Infirm.
Mary was the eldest child of Karolina Sabat and Joseph Maliawsky who emigrated to America from Poland and Belarus in the early 20th century. She had two sisters and five brothers. She grew up during tough economic times in the midst of the Great Depression. It is known that her siblings with dates of birth between 1918 and 1928 were born in Shady Side, North Bergen, Hudson County NJ. It is likely that Mary was also born in Shady Side. The family lived on the waterfront of the Hudson River, opposite Manhattan, New York. In 1930, they were living in nearby Fairview, Bergen County. By 1935, they had relocated permanently further south to Jersey City, Hudson County.
Mary entered the convent in 1940 (after the US Federal Census) and professed her final vows on August 15, 1947. She was mostly stationed in Fall River, Massachusetts, with some years in the midwest. She would return to visit family in New Jersey twice yearly during her vacation.
Burial services were conducted at the Holy Father Chapel of St. Patrick's Manor, Framingham, Massachusetts.
NOTE: Many family members changed the spelling of Maliawsky to Maliawski, including Mary.
