|Birth: ||Sep. 25, 1881|
South Carolina, USA
|Death: ||Dec. 13, 1948|
Daughter of Holland Manning and his first wife, Martha Jane Gibson, of Marlboro County, South Carolina.
At age 19, Pattie was living in the household of her married sister, Della Lorena Manning McLeod, in Richmond County, North Carolina. In 1902, the McLeods moved to a farm in nearby Buie in Burnt Swamp Township of Robeson County NC.
Shortly thereafter on 31 December 1902, Pattie married Benjamin Franklin "Frank" Ellerbe of Richmond County. His mother, Annie McLeod, was a sister of Della's husband Alexander Calhoun McLeod. The newlyweds were married in Mineral Springs Township in Richmond County and settled in Burnt Swamp Township in Robeson County.
Older sister Catherine Estelle Manning Gibson also lived close by -- first in Laurel Hill, then Red Springs and later Shannon, all in Robeson County.
Frank and Pattie were the parents of seven children - 5 girls and 2 boys. All were born in Robeson County prior to 1915. By the September 1918 WWI draft registration, the family had returned to Richmond County and was living in Roberdell. Frank was working as a carpenter for the Seaboard Railway. They are enumerated in Richmond County in the 1920 and 1930 US Federal Census records.
By 1940, Frank and Pattie were separated. Pattie was enumerated as housekeeper in her half-sister Mary Belle Manning Bethea's household in Latta, Dillon County, South Carolina. Frank was living in the home of their daughter Martha Jane Ellerbe Broadaway in Thomasville, Davidson County, North Carolina.
Frank's 1946 death certificate indicates he and Pattie had divorced. He lived in Asheboro, Randolph County NC since 1944, where daughters Annie Broadaway and Martha Broadaway had homes.
Pattie is buried in Texas. She was probably living with their youngest daughter Elizabeth in Collin County. Collin County is next to Throckmorton County, the site of her grave. Son Wesley also lived in Texas in El Paso.
Years earlier in 1934, son Benjamin Franklin "Frank" Ellerbe, Jr., died in Texas at age 25. He was returned to Richmond County and is buried in Ellerbe Cemetery with his father.
