|Death: ||May 5, 1871|
Isabella, daughter of Thomas Ramage of Williamsburg, married Isaac Hershberger in Lewiston on 29 July 1834. Settled in Frankstown. Mother of six children: Wilson, Samuel, Mary, Emma, William and Martha. She was widowed in 1854, and struggled to support her children, taking in washing and ironing. Her eldest son was crippled from birth, and her youngest suffered from 'white swelling' making it difficult for him to work. Her middle son Samuel, apprenticed as a carpenter, worked for the local coal mining company and contributed to the family income. Upon his death in the Union Army in 1864, Isabella applied for and finally received a 'mother's pension' and a few years before her death was able to purchase a small frame house in Frankstown and finally live in security. Photo at right is a modern photo of the house, which is being restored by the current owners.
