Stanley Clayton Lay, Sr. 70, of Holton, died Monday, April 16, 2012 at his residence.

Funeral services were at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun Friday with Pastor Richard Burcham officiating. Interment was Rising Sun New Cemetery.

Mr. Lay worked at Seagram's Distillery in Lawrenceburg for 30 years and retired in 1997.He also worked for the Rising Sun Gulf Station and operated Lay's Marathon Station in Versailles. Mr. Lay was a member of the Versailles Volunteer Fire Department for 11 years and a former member of the Versailles American Legion. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and tinkering on anything that needed fixed.

Born in Casey County, Kentucky on November 21, 1941, Mr. Lay was the son of Bessie Buck and Thornton Bant Lay. On August 25, 1962 at the Patriot Baptist Church he married Henrietta White Lay and she survives.

Other survivors include daughter Faye Rayburn of Port Washington, Ohio; son, Stanley C. Lay, Jr. of Lebanon, Ohio; four grandchildren, Gretchen Moore of Holton, Nicholas Rayburn of Dillsboro, Vanessa and Alexander Lay, both of Lebanon, Ohio; three great grandchildren Dereck Jr. and Devin Moore and Lane Rayburn; sisters, Carolyn Wright of Milan and Linda Cann and Connie Sigmon, both of Rising Sun; brothers, Alton Lay of Versailles, Carl Lay of Rising Sun, and Chester and Jesse Lay, both of East Enterprise.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Raymond Lay and a sister, Datha Carman.
