INDIANAPOLIS – A 19-year-old peregrine falcon that had captivated Indianapolis residents for years has died.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources says the falcon named Kinney was found dead Friday outside a downtown office building. The bird was identified by its leg band and appeared to have flown into the building.

The bird was hatched in captivity and released in Lexington, Ky., in 1993. It appeared in Indianapolis in 1994 and fathered 61 young with its nesting partner.

A webcam set up near the nest allowed the public to watch the pair raise their young in recent years.

Kinney's death is the second involving a popular falcon this summer. A falcon named Zephyr that had lived in South Bend for nearly a decade died in June after colliding with a structure.
