Bev was born to Thomas and Evelyn King Mangan, one of five children. She married Billie Gibbs on Feb. 25, 1949, in Peoria. They had two boys, Randall and Russell about 13 years apart.
She was a secretary with Ruppman Advertising, and when her children were young, she acted as a Cub Scout den mother. Later, she welcomed many friends of her younger son to the house, providing a nurturing, safe environment to teenagers who needed her loving care and consistency.
After retirement, she worked part time at the Peoria Airport snack bar and chatted with interesting people from around the country. She also volunteered at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in the Medical Records Dept., enjoyed camping and fishing at Leisure Oaks Park near Bartonville with her husband, and rooted for her alma mater, the Manual High School Rams, and the St. Louis Cardinals. She actively participated with the Just Us Dancers Square Dancing Club, smiling and flouncing through do-si-dos in frilly, colorful dresses with her husband leading. She liked reading, crocheting, and bowling in her spare time.
Her parents and one brother, Dennis, preceded her in death. She is survived by her two sons, Russell Gibbs of Bartonville and Randall (Genny) Gibbs of Metamora; two granddaughters, Leah (Andy Bugos) Jewell of Washington and Megan (Tom) Meyer of Peoria, who affectionately referred to her as "Mimi"; and four great-grandchildren, Payton Jewell, Gabriel Jewell, Ella Bugos and Zoey Meyer. Also surviving are two brothers, Larry (Tillie) Mangan of Bartonville and Mike (Gloria) Mangan of California; and one sister, Mary Mangan McLinden of Seattle, Wash.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Hospice Compassus of Peoria.
