Published in The Courier-Journal on January 15, 2012 ALVEY, LARRY, 62, of Louisville, passed away on Saturday January 14, 2012 after a courageous year long battle with cancer. Larry retired from St. Matthews Police Dept. as Chief Detective in April 2011 and was also an Iron Worker with Local 70. Larry was an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer. He had a love for all types of sports. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Chickie Alvey; brother, Bootsie Alvey; and nephew, Jeff Kramer He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Rosemary; sister, Linda Kramer (Al), brother, Danny Alvey (Patty); son, Israel Castro (Sarah); grandchildren, Miguel and Isaiah; three nephews, Sam, Geno, and Todd; four nieces, Julie, Sherry, Susie, and Samantha; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Special thanks to all the people with Hosparus who gave him the special care he needed. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Highway with cremation to follow. Visitation will be 1-8 p.m. Monday. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Hosparus.
