Jeremiah Castleberry was the son of William Castleberry and Jincy Jane Vineyard born in Alabama. He served with his brother Joseph in the War Between the States. Joseph was killed at the at Chickamauga. married and started his family before moving to Texas.


Jeremiah Castleberry, eighty-two years of age, was found dead in bed at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Henry Miller, shortly before sunup last Tuesday morning. He was feeling as well as usual the previous day but died some time during Monday night from natural causes, due to his advanced years and early exposures. Deceased was born in Gwinnett county, Ga., Sept. 16th, 1833, moving with his parents to Alabama at the age of six years. He was married Jan. 12, 1858, in Alabama to Martha Lewis and they removed to Texas in December, 1901, since which time Mrs. Castleberry died. Mr. Castleberry had been a consistent member of the Missionary Baptist church since 1849. He is survived by children as follows: Bouldin Castleberry, residing six miles from Stephenville. Mrs. Henry Miller of near Dublin, V. L. Castleberry and J. C. Castleberry of Greer county, Okla., and Mrs. A. J. Smith of near Dublin." (1)

Death certificate says 9 November 1915, with burial on 10 November 1915.

Upper Greens Creek Cemetery is located in Erath Co., TX. It is approximately 5 miles south of Stephenville. From US 377, go 1/2 mile west on County Road 380, then go 1/2 mile south on County Road 351. It's just past Greens Creek Baptist Church on the east side of the road. This cemetery also has an historical marker.

Jeremiah is my 3rd great uncle. The Castleberry family was a very close family shown from the letters they wrote to keep in touch with the family back in Al. after they moved to Texas.
