Mrs. Montez Tyre Smiley
Mrs. Montez Tyre Smiley, 94, passed away Tuesday afternoon, May 2, 2007, at the Pierce County Nursing Home.
A native and life-long resident of Pierce County, she was a retired bookkeeper for the Pierce County Tag Office and was also a former postmaster for the Mershon Post Office. Mrs. Smiley was a charter member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church. She was a member of the Adult Women's Sunday School Class and had been very active in church functions throughout the years. Mrs. Smiley will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.
She was a daughter of the late Lonnie Marion & Mabel Griffis Tyre, Sr. and was also preceded in death by her husband, Everette Prentice Smiley, her sister, Verda Shipes, and both of her brothers, Raynell Tyre and Lonnie Marion Tyre, Jr..
Survivors are two daughters and sons-n-law, Donna Dixon & husband, Jack Ferguson, and Marian & Terry Evans all of Blackshear; 4 grandchildren, David (SueAnne) Dixon of Offerman, Cynthia (Olin) Lovett of Statesboro, Angel (Kevin) Knowlton of Jacksonville, FL and Kyler (Ryan) Fyffe of Blackshear; 9 great grandchildren, Ryan Dixon, Ethan Lovett, Courtney Dixon, Blaine Lovett, Skyler Dixon, Tyce Lovett, Dixon Knowlton, Emma Knowlton & Asher Fyffe and several nieces, nephews & other relatives.
Funeral services for Mrs. Smiley will be held Friday morning, May 4, 2007, at 11:00 o'clock from the Emmanuel Baptist Church..
Interment will be in the Blackshear Cemetery.
Visitation for Mrs. Smiley will be held Thursday evening from 6 until 9 at the funeral home.
The family has requested that all members of the Adult Women's Sunday School Classes, Maggie Howard and Barbara C. Smith - teachers, and Willet Hall Staff of the Pierce County Nursing Home serve as honorary pallbearers. They should meet at the church by 10:30 Friday morning.
Mrs. Smiley will lay in state at the church one hour prior to the service.
