| Birth: | Sep. 14, 1875 Philadelphia Philadelphia County Pennsylvania, USA | | Death: | Dec. 22, 1910 Philadelphia Philadelphia County Pennsylvania, USA |  One of 13 Philadelphia firefighters who died in the horrendous Friedlander Leather Remnants factory fire on December 21st and 22nd, 1910. The walls of the factory collapsed on the firefighters. The fire remains the worst death toll in Philadelphia Fire Department history. A ceremony was held at the location of the site at 3rd Street and Girard Avenue in December 2010 commemorating 100 years since the disaster. The area is the site of an apartment complex and stores.
The Philadelphia Press; Sunday, December 25, 1910, Page 7:
"STEWART – Suddenly, on December 22, 1910, ROBERT, beloved husband of Isabella Stewart, in his 36th year. Relatives and friends, also members of Engine Co. No. 2, Chemical Engine No. 4, Phila. Fire Dept. in general and Insurance Patrols, are invited to attend the funeral services, on Tuesday, at 2 P. M., at his late residence, 2240 North Hope St. Interment at North Cedar Hill Cemetery."
His parents were James Stewart and Mary Elliott, both born in Ireland.
