Joseph "Joe" Lee Daugherty, was born on November 5, 1936 and he was the son of William Lewis Daugherty and Rachel Thomas Layton Daugherty
Before Joe was born his Parents were blessed with their first son named, William Lewis Daugherty, Jr , who was born in the year of 1930. Joe, never had the experience of having an older Brother, as Lewis passed away in the year of 1935 after an infection in his blood sadly spread to his left foot.
Joe, was always a very strong Christian and, all through his life God characterized a very considerable highness.
Joe, grew up in downtown Nashville, TN on what is now known as 3rd Avenue South. When he was a boy his family attended Church at The Lindsley Avenue Church of Christ in Downtown Nashville. He was a High School Graduate of the Nashville Davidson County Public School System at the now Historic Howard High School, where all through his life he stayed close to his graduating class. In High School, he met three great men who all became his friends for life. They were; Gus, James, and Jim. All of whom are still living as of 2011. They were all of course pallbearers at Joe's funeral.

This was his High School Senior Horoscope:

Joe married Miss Carole Ann Clayton, from Lawrenceburg, TN in the year of March 1959 in Nashville. Joe and Carole later sadly divorced in the year of 1981 after 22 years of marriage. During Joe and Carole's marriage, they were blessed with one daughter, Pamela who was born on February 2, 1960. In the 1960's and the 1970's the Daughery's attended Church at The Madison Church of Christ which is located a few miles outside of Nashville.
In the year 1989, his very first Granddaughter was born. In the year of 1995, his second Granddaughter was born. Joe, loved both of his Granddaughters very much, and each of them had a very contrasting relationship with him.
During his life time, Joe worked for the state of Tennessee doing accounting, and in his later years he worked for Wal-Mart pharmacy also doing accounting. He was a very big fan of Dolly Parton and of Elvis Presley. His favorite drink was 7Up soda and his favorite food was the homemade Pimento Cheese from his Mother's own personal recipe. He loved meeting with his family on Sunday afternoons at Shoney's Restaurant, where he always ate his favorite Turkey Club Sandwich. Family was always very important to Joe. During the last four years of his life he dated, a wonderful woman named, Catherine. Catherine and he were very close and she took very good care of him. For the last 8 years of his life he lived in a retirement apartment home, and he served proudly as the President of the buildings association for 4 years. At the apartment home, Joe was one of only 6 men who lived there and he enjoyed that very much.
Joe, suffered heart problems and diabetes since the late 1970's. Both, sadly inflicted his later years a great deal and caused him much emotional stress. Through all his health problems he was always very strong and kept his faith in God.
Starting on October 22nd 2008, Joe's health really deteriorated, and he endured a lot of struggles for months. Joe, passed away on February 6, 2009 at the age of 72 years old at The Centennial Medical Center in Nashville with his Daughter, Pamela and his oldest Granddaughter by his side. Even though my Grandfather was suffering, he still had his faith and he remained very strong. The two days before his death he still knew who his Daughter Pamela was, and at times knew who his Granddaughter also was. We are very thankful for all the time we had with him and we will always miss his greatly.
His visitation was held on Sunday, February 8, 2009 at The Woodbine- Hickory Chapel Funeral Home. His funeral service was conducted on Monday, February 9, 2009 from the Woodbine- Hickory Chapel Funeral Home and Pastor and good friend Wendell Byrd officiated the service. After the funeral service Joe was laid to rest at The Hermitage Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Hermitage, TN. Pallbearers were; Jim Jenkins, James George, Gus Clockwald, Kerry George, and Buddy Judkins.
Joe's, family really misses him a great deal, but is very glad he is now at peace and with God.
