Second son of John Edgar and Elizabeth (Miller) Hampton. Named after his grandfather, Samuel J. Miller, Sam, like his grandfather, had no middle name, only an initial. On 24 Jun 1920 he eloped in Cumberland, Md., with his 15-year old sweetheart, Elinor Bowser. Together they were blessed with 71 years of marriage. Sam was a farmer all of his life. He was the father of Samuel Hampton Jr. and of Doris Abbott. Brother of Walter, John, Joseph and Lexie Hampton and of Sarah, Anna and Lillian Breth, Catherine Weaver and Elmira Bowser.
