Funeral services for Paul L. Abernathy, 80, of 312 Wells Drive, Orangeburg, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 21, 2005, at New Hope Baptist Church, 4000 Riverbank Drive, Orangeburg, with the Rev. Anthony Hughes officiating. Burial will be in Crestlawn Memorial Gardens in Orangeburg with military honors. The casket will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Pallbearers will be military.
Mr. Abernathy died Thursday, Feb. 17, at The Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg. He was born Feb. 12, 1925, in Greensboro, N.C., a son of Mr. and Mrs. Abernathy. He was retired from the U.S. Army and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Donald (Paula) Rickenbaker of Orangeburg; two grandchildren, Angel Rickenbaker and Wayne Rickenbaker, both of Orangeburg; one brother, Jimmy Abernathy of California; a half sister; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the residence, 312 Wells Drive, Orangeburg, and at the funeral home. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Thompson Funeral Home Inc. in Orangeburg. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia SC 29210 or to New Hope Baptist
