Philipp Bausch was born October 31, 1830, in Laudenbach, Baden, Germany, to Adam Bausch and Eva Elisabetha Webel. He was baptized November 15, 1830. He attended Marlinberg College, where he studied medicine and became a licensed doctor in bonesetting. He was a practicing surgeon in Germany until 1867.
He married Margaretha Dittler October 11, 1857 and they had five children before emmigrating to America. The children born in Germany were Eva Katharina; Philipp Daniel; Charles; Adolph Joseph; and Anna Katharina.
He immigrated with his family to New York, New York March 25, 1867. They settled in Cook County, Illinois having 3 children born there. The children born in Illinois were Stephen; Elizabeth; and Margaret. Later they lived in Wisconsin and Iowa. Another 3 children, Heinrich; Friedrich; and Adam were born in Muscatine County, Iowa.
In 1884, he moved his family to Holt County, Nebraska, 12 miles N.E. of Atkinson, where he signed his homestead papers in 1885. They also had a child, Wilhelm, born in Holt County.
According to federal census records, Philip was a barber in 1870 in Muscatine County, Iowa & a farmer in 1880, in Fremont, Johnson County, Iowa. He was described in the Gorsch-Roggentein History in America.

Funeral Here Today for S. Bausch, Sr. Would Have Been 99 Years Old Had He Lived Six More Weeks
Funeral services were held at St. John's Lutheran Church in Atkinson this afternoon at 2:30 for Stephen Bausch, Sr., who died Wednesday evening at the home of his son Adolph in Atalissa, IA. The services will be conducted by Rev. Wm. G. Vable. Mr. Bausch was born in Baden, Germany October 30, 1830 and lived to be almost one hundred years old. Burial will be made in Woodlawn Cemetery.

The body of Phillip Bausch was sent from Nichols Wednesday morning to Atkinson, Neb., for burial. Mr. Bausch had made his home for a number of years with his son, Adolph Bausch, east of Cedar Valley. He was within a few days of being 99 years old.
