ELKHART -- Robert Eugene Jarvis, 61, of Elkhart, died at 4:12 a.m. Friday, Aug. 12, 2011, at St. Joseph Hospital in Fort Wayne.

He was born Dec. 18, 1949, in Elkhart to Kenneth and Frieda (Lawson) Jarvis.

Robert graduated from Elkhart High School in 1968. He went on to become a corporal machine gunner in the United States Marine Corps from 1970 to 1972 in Vietnam. Then he spent most of his life in the van conversion and the RV industry. He was a member of the Elkhart Elks Lodge 425 for 37 years.

Surviving are four sons, Todd Jarvis of Indianapolis, Brent and Brian Jarvis, both of Minneapolis, and Derek Jarvis of Elkhart. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Caleb, Taylor and Jack Jarvis.

In lieu of a funeral, there will be a celebration of his life from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, 2011, at Crimaldi's Restaurant and Bar, 117 W. Jackson Blvd., Elkhart. Come thirsty and bring memories! Graveside services will be at noon Friday in the veterans section of Prairie Street Cemetery. The military rites will be rendered by the Elkhart DAV Chapter 19

Rest in peace, Robert. We were classmates at Elkhart High School, graduating in 1968. We also attended Osolo Elementary, Eastwood Elementary and Osolo Jr. High Schools together.
