April 25, 1931 - Clemens Stallman died from pneumonia this morning at 6:30 in his home at 403 east First street. He had been ill since Feb. 9. Funeral services will be held at 9 o'clock Monday morning in Ss Peter and Paul's church and requiem high mass will be celebrated by the Rev. Father Lambert Schenkelberg. Burial will be in Ss. Peter and Paul's cemetery.
Clemens Stallman was born April 22, 1851 in Baken Vechta, Oldenburg, Germany, where he was reared, and came when a young man to the United States. He was married March 5, 1878 to Bernadine Frohle, who was born in Steinfeld, Oldenburg, Germany and came to this country when a child of nine. The ceremony was performed at Roselle by the Rev. Father Wegman.
Eleven children were born to this union, two dying in infancy. Those surviving with his wife are Clemens Stallman of Reliance, S.D., Mrs. John Schulte (Clementine) of Emery, S.D.; Joseph Stallman of Iona, Minn.; Theodore Stallman of Calloway, Minn.; Mrs. William Rolfes (Anna) of Iona, Minn.; Mrs. Gus Hoffman (Emma)of Grantsbug, Wis.; Mrs. William Jump (Frances) of Cedar Rapids; Frank Stallman of Mosinec, Wis.; Mrs. Joseph Green (Louise) of Detroit, Mich., who has been at home during the winter.
He also leaves a brother, Henry Stallman of Oskaloosa, who arrived last night, 51 grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
Following their marriage they moved on a farm near Roselle for a year and then went to Breda, later to Iona, Minn., and 16 years ago returned to Carroll which has since been the home. Mr. Stallman retired from the farm about 16 years ago. During his illness his daughter, Mrs. Green has been assisting in the care of her father. He was a devout member of Ss Peter and Paul's church, and also a member of the Holy Name and St. Boniface societies. He died well fortified with the rites of the church.
