Nola Mae was the daughter of Herbert E. and Pearl Kyker Wilhite. She married Leroy Hancock, son of James Payne and Bertha (Pollard) Hancock, November 26, 1938 in Clinton, Anderson County, Tennessee. Leroy and Nola reared six children, DeAnna Carolyn Hancock-Cooley, Andy Hancock, Kyle David Hancock, Gwenda Lou Hancock-Stephenson, Clinton Eugene Hancock and Cynthia Jane Dukes.
Leroy & Nola lived in Knoxville for many years relocating to a small community called Walnut Loop in Townsend, Tennessee. Except for the death of their son, Kyle David Hancock, 1965 (bd. Evergeen Memorial Gardens, Knoxville) their happiest years may have been the simple life they shared in Townsend surrounded by loving, caring neighbors.
Mother and Dad loved to fish and often mother would catch the biggest and most fish. Mother loved flowers and she and dad enjoyed the many hummingbirds that frequented their porch.
Dad preceded mother in death, April 15, 2000. As I stood in the hospital watching their good-bye I felt that I would never seen such love between a man and woman again. For their 50th anniversary, we chose a rose and verse, "One Life, One Love Together" for the invitation -- it truly suited these two.
Mother had many illnesses and close calls the last years of her life. However, she had returned from a visit with her daughter in Memphis and had been doing much better. She spent November 3 with a niece, and her brother at her daughters watching the blue birds frolic and enjoying newly planted flower beds. Her death the following day came as a shock to her family.

November 3, 2001 we sat on the deck with family members. You watched as we planted spring bulbs and how you enjoyed the blue birds. We ate dinner and enjoyed such a wonderful day. I wasn't expecting to stand by your bedside less than twenty-four hours wit...(Read more)|
