Greentown — Ned Horoho, 89, Greentown, died at 5 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012. Born June 4, 1923, in Howard County, he was the son of Owen Forest "Boone" and Sarah Anna (Crousore) Horoho. He was married Aug. 20, 1949, to Phyllis Annette (Dunham) Horoho, who survives.
He owned and operated Greentown Lawn Mower Shop, worked at Maples Chevrolet and operated the Marathon station. He also drove for Gro Mor; he went on to work for Haynes Stellite for several years and joined Delco Electronics in 1965 and retired in 1990, with 25 years of service.
He was a 1942 graduate of Jackson Twp. High School. He served in the United States Army with the 11th Airborne in World War II and 101st Airborne in the Korean War.
He was a member of Sycamore Friends Church, former member and past president of Greentown Lions Club. He was very involved in Boy Scouts in the late 1960s and all through the 1970s. He started out as an assistant scoutmaster and then became scoutmaster for troop 328 of Greentown. In the mid 1970s, he became a district manager for the Sagamore Council and was a member of the Order of the Arrow. He also raised two Eagle Scouts. He enjoyed woodworking.
Surviving with his wife, Phyllis Horoho, Greentown; and his children, David (Debra) Horoho, South Bend, Pam (Ray) Ashcraft, Greentown, and Mike (Karen) Horoho, Kokomo; brother: Jack "Buster" Horoho, North Manchester; sister, Madalyn Cates; 10 grandchildren, Chris (Beth) Horoho, Derek (Danielle) Horoho, Jeremy (Rachael) Ashcraft, Kara (Will) Riley, Sean Ashcraft, Lindsay Charles, Craig Horoho, Phillip Horoho and Grant Horoho; and 10 great-grandchildren, Bailey, Zoe, Destiny, Tyler, Kylanie, Kieran, Allison, Coraline, Jackson and Evelyn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Freeda "Peggy" Summers, Margaret Cron Grant and Mary Ellen Cron; and a grandson, Jeff Horoho.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Sycamore Friends Church, 1148 N. Road 1100 East, Greentown, with Pastor Jesse Vore officiating. Burial will follow in Simpson Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 317. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hasler and Stout Funeral Home, 112 E. Main St., Greentown.
