“The Herald” (Piedmont, W.Va.), Friday 19 March 1909:
Michael Ahern, an old and respected citizen, died Friday, March 12th, 1909, at the home of his son-in-law, Mr. Nathan Wilburn, on Back Street, aged about 75 years. Mr. Ahern has been a prominent figure upon our streets for many years. He was a kind hearted and friendly gentleman, and in his younger years an exceedingly fine clerk.
He was an old soldier and a number of his comrades attended his funeral, which took place Sunday afternoon from the home. Rev. H. L. Hout, of St. John’s M. E. Church, South, officiated. Interment was in Philos Cemetery.
