Chuck was born in Duluth on August 28, 1936 to Charles and Verna (Anderson) Gerard. Chuck was a United States veteran having served in both the Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve from 1954 to 1962. He married Dale Robarge and together they raised four boys. Chuck was a multitalented man holding various jobs in his early years, but retired from Klassic Countertops as a cabinet maker after 34 years of employment. On December 31, 1971 he married Bernice Holten and helped raised her three daughters as his own. Chuck was a member of the NRA, United Northern Sportsmen and the Duluth Archery Club. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed playing cards at the Eagles Nest and Blue Max. Chuck's lifelong goal was to harvest a moose and in 2008 he achieved this goal with great excitement.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and infant daughter, Deanne; wife, Bernice (1993); brother, Donald; daughter-in-law, Gaynell and his canine companion, Lady.
He will be greatly missed by his children, Kim (Sharon), Kelly, Mark (Maria), Matt, Wendy, Cheryl (Tim), Diane (Dale); three sisters, Barb (Stan), Joan (Roland "Skip"), Jean (Jim); twelve grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren with one more expected this summer; friend, Sandra Johnsen and her son, Doug; special friends, Jerry and Jim; and "man's best friend," Lady II.
A Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm Friday, March 18, 2011 in Jarvi Dowd Chapel. 925 East 4th St. and will continue from 10 am until the 11 am Funeral Service Saturday March 19th , also in Jarvi Dowd Chapel. Military Honors will be accorded by the Duluth Honor Guard. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
