Served as a nurse in WWI. The claim in the obit below which says she is a direct descendant of Robert E. Lee is not true.

Married to W. Dwight Kessler on November 21, 1939 in Toledo, Ohio. Headstone reflects her maiden name. She didn't use her married name after her divorce.
------------
Ina Marie Lee, age 108, slept away peacefully to be with her Lord, December 13, 2000. A direct descendent of Robert E. Lee she is survived by her sister, Genetta Grau; nephews, Jim, John, Charles and George Grau; niece, Susan Marie Nellett; dear friends, Icel and Bob Midkiff, and her loving friend and companion for the past ten years, Mary Lou Leonard, and her family. Her closest friend for 60 years, Lucretta Owens, preceded her in death.

Ina was born May 25, 1892, in Jerry City, Ohio and her life has spanned three centuries. In 1917, Ina graduated from Toledo Hospital School of Nursing and then joined the Army as a nurse June 10, 1918. She was stationed at Camp Sheridon, AL during the war and the "black pneumonia epidemic". The loss of so many men her own age she could never forget. After being sent to Fort Snelling, Minnesota, she was discharged May 18, 1919 and became night supervisor at Robert Long Hospital in Indianapolis. For the next 59 years she did private duty nursing for many prominent Toledo families retiring in 1977 at age 85. She will always be remembered for her quick wit, joyous laugh, her sense of humor and most of all her quest for excellence in bedside nursing.

Her retirement years from age 98-108 were spent attending church concerts, plays, Toledo Hospital Alumna Assoc. meetings, Sylvania Christian Women's Club brunches and her Veteran's post dinners. She has been honored by Willard Scott twice, Mayor Carty Finkbeiner, Marcy Kaptur and her alumna as it's oldest graduate and member. One of the highlights of her life was when at 101 she rode in a convertible in the American Legion Convention Parade as the oldest veteran in Ohio. She loved the saluting, clapping and waving! She also was the nurse chosen to unveil the nurse sculpture done by JoAnn Cousino when The Toledo Hospital School of nursing closed.

She was a member of Chapter #341 Eastern Star, oldest living member in the county of Dendarah Court #10, member of Argonne Post American Legion and attended Westgate Chapel until 6 months ago.

Friends may call Monday, December 18, 2000, at the Bersticker-Scott Funeral Home, 3453 Heatherdowns Blvd., from 4-7 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at 7 p.m. followed by Legion services. Burial will be private, Tuesday in Jerry City.

Memorial contributions may be made to Toledo Hospital Alumna Assoc., Argonne Post, Toledo Christian School or Westgate Chapel.
