Nancy Lee Parker, 78, of Beverly Hills, Florida, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on 25 November 2010 at home, surrounded by loving family.
Nancy was born on December 19, 1931, in Decatur County, Georgia, and lived most of her life in Jacksonville, Florida. She was the daughter of Hubert Ellis and Mary Butler, and step-daughter of Wayland B. Dowell. Nancy was a member of Andrew Jackson High School, Class of 1949. She was active in many historical and genealogical societies. Nancy served as the founding president of the National Archives and Genealogical Alumni Association. She succeeded Aurora Shaw as editor of the Southern Genealogical Society Exchange Quarterly. Nancy successfully brought the National Genealogical Society's 1992 Conference to Jacksonville, Florida. She was a lecturer and instructor in genealogy and historical research, methods and pursuits. Nancy served on the Jacksonville Library Board of Trustees and influenced the expansion of the genealogical and local history departments. Prior to retiring in 1994, Nancy and her husband owned and operated Absolute Mailing Systems, Inc. Due to the significance of the river to the history of the city of Jacksonville, her ashes will be sprinkled in the St Johns River on the outgoing tide near Dames Point at her request.
Nancy is survived by her husband of 60 years, Edward Watts Parker; her sons Wayland Edward (Snookie) Parker (Marla) of Wilson, North Carolina; Timothy Arnold Parker (Esther) of Raleigh, North Carolina; and Christopher Lee Parker (Roseanne) of Salt Lake City, Utah; grandchildren Olivia, Laura, John, Jennifer and Garrett; several nieces and nephews; and brother Thomas Dowell (Judy) of Cullowhee, North Carolina. She was preceded in death by her sister Helen Boyle of Jacksonville, Florida.
