Levi was the son of John Wesley Hollinger and Susanna Spohn Hollinger. He was born in Ohio and enlisted in the Union Army on February 24, 1864 in Company F, 49th Infantry Regiment, Ohio. He was killed in battle on December 16, 1864 at Nashville, Tennnessee. He was 19 years old. Cemetery records list Levi's death date as December 17, 1864. Family records show his death date as December 16, 1864.
