Jack W. Siebert, 88, passed away peacefully Aug. 17, 2007, in his Sandbridge Beach home surrounded by his family. Born Jan. 29, 1919, in Norfolk, Jack enjoyed a wonderful life with his family and friends and was passionate about his work as a Realtor and his community involvements. In most cases, Jack's winning personality usually resulted in him becoming president of whatever association he joined. Jack was a former member of the Talbot Park Baptist Church and the Blackwater Baptist Church. He was a devoted Sunday school teacher for many years and also served on the Board of Deacons. Jack was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. After a career as a longshoreman for 26 years, Jack became a real estate broker in 1963. He co-founded Warren, Siebert, Page Realty in Norfolk in 1964 and was president/owner in 1966. In 1973, he established a branch office at Sandbridge Beach. He and his wife Jean ultimately established Siebert Realty in 1980. Throughout his real estate career, he received numerous awards that include twice being voted "Realtor of the Year" by the local Board of Realtor. He served as president of the Norfolk Board of Realtors, president of the Virginia Association of Realtors, and was vice president of the National Association of Realtors. Jack was pleased to be the Past Grand Master (1961) of the Corinthian Lodge No. 266, Norfolk, as well as a member of the Scottish Rite and a Shriner. Additionally, Jack was a loyal member of the Norfolk Host Lions Club and the Virginia Beach Auxiliary Police. Jack was honored to serve twice as president of the American Cancer Society and was proud of his involvement with the Old Dominion University Intercollegiate Foundation Board. He received an honorary degree from Old Dominion in 2001. Jack's favorite pastimes were being with family and friends and cheering on the ODU Monarchs men's basketball team. He loved "his" team and was a longtime, enthusiastic supporter. They will greatly miss their "head cheerleader." Jack was predeceased by his parents, Fredrick and Hattie Siebert and his siblings, Virginia Siebert Miller, Fred "B" Siebert and William Siebert.
Jack is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Jean. He also leaves to cherish his memory his sons, John Keenan and his wife Deb of Kitty Hawk, N.C., James Keenan and his wife Jennifer of Virginia Beach and Patrick Keenan and his wife Lea of Virginia Beach; and his daughters, Susan Parsons and her husband Ronnie of Suffolk and Joanne Young and her husband James of Virginia Beach. He also leaves 12 grandchildren, Drew and Grant Keenan, Gregory, Sarah and Caroline Keenan, Jacob and Rachel Keenan, Patrick and Allison Young, Ginny Doughtie and Holly and Katie Parsons; three great-grandchildren, Jordan, Grayson and Aaron Doughtie. The Siebert Realty team was also a big part of Jack's family, and they will miss him dearly. His light-hearted humor and passion for life were an inspiration to everyone.
The family will receive friends at a viewing from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., 2202 Laskin Road, Virginia Beach. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in the First Presbyterian Church, 300 36th St., Virginia Beach. Internment will be at the Eastern Shore Chapel Cemetery, 2002 Laskin Road, immediately following the service. To celebrate Jack's life, friends are invited to join the family at the Princess Anne Country Club, 3800 Pacific Ave., Virginia Beach, at 4 p.m. or immediately following the internment. The family would like to express its deep appreciation to the wonderful caregivers and the Hospice Group for their loving care of Jack during his advance stages of Alzheimer's. Jack...you were a great husband, father, friend and Realtor. You enriched the lives of those you touched, and you will long be remembered in our hearts and in our community. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.hdoliver.com.
