Obit - Woman Killed by Train Here Early Monday Justice Hukel After Inquest, Said Death Mrs. Roberts Was Accidental
Funeral services were held at Trewitt Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock for Mrs. Lillian Jetty Roberts, 37, who was killed here early Monday morning by a train. Rev Jim McCloud, Dallas, officiated.
An inquest was held at 10 a. m., but R. D. Hukel, justice of the peace, withheld a verdict until further investigation. In his final report made Tuesday morning. Justice Hukel said the tragedy was the result of an accident. The head and lower part of the right arm were severed by the train, testimony at the inquest revealed.
The body was found at 5:45 a. m. Monday beside the Santa Fe railroad trestle at the end of West Long Street, by Mrs. Robert's brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Anderson, with whom Mrs. Roberts and her family had been making their home temporarily since recently returning here from Dallas.
MIssed Sister About 4:30 a. m.
Anderson said he and Mrs. Anderson had missed his sister about 4:30 a.m. Monday, and began searching for her. The body was discovered two blocks from the home. It was believed that Mrs. Roberts had been struck by a south-bound passenger train about 2:10 a.m.
Justice Jukel held an opinion that she might have been on her way to a friend's home when she was killed accidentally by the train.
Her husband, Curtis R. Roberts is a local hotel chef. He is a grandson of the late James H. Roberts, one of the earliest settlers in the Valley Grove community of Erath county. Mrs. Roberts was born January 9. 1902, at Lingleville, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Anderson, who moved to Erath county from Tennessee. She and Curtis R. Roberts were married 19 years ago. Mrs. Roberts was a member of the Church of the New Testament.
Survived by Two Children
Besides the husband and brother, Mrs. Roberts is survived by two daughters, Natacha, 14, and Norma, 11; a sister, Mrs. C. H. Richardson, Stephenville, and another brother, Allen J. Anderson, Austin. Mrs. Richardson's husband, incidentally, died here recently.
