Initially it was thought that although severely burned, she would survive. Her mother and father stayed with her during the night, and she passed away in the morning of June 4, 1913.
In the photos at right, Arkie is pictured with her younger sister Ocie. All the family photos of the sisters show them together. Ocie Myrtis Burris died at the age of 9 in 1910. Family links: Parents: George Washington Burris (1856 - 1929) Mary Mathilda Wharton Burris (1859 - 1938)
