|Birth: ||1834, Germany|
|Death: ||Jan. 14, 1890|
Peter F. Wentz, a well known and respected German citizen residing on North Main street, was stricken down, some two weeks ago and, after a short illness of a few days, died on Tuesday, 14th, aged 55 years and 6 months. Mr. Wentz had lived on the place where he died for 22 years and had gained many friends. He was always a hard toiler and good neighbor; never would refuse to lend a helping hand, was liberal to the needy and had worked and striven hard to relieve a burden which many New England homes are possessed. This was accomplished, some two years ago and his future days began to brighten.
A nice and hard working wife and mother and five daughters survive him. The funeral was attended from his late residence on North Main street. Rev. Charles W. Boylston of Grace church, Long Hill, presided, Ira Agur, William Dewhurst, Adam Geist, Charles Tonges acting as bearer. Interment in Park cemetery. Truly, when a good person dies, the community mourns his loss.
Peter very likely was born Peter Wentz as is listed in his obituary, however his headstone reads Wenz.
Peter married Magdalena Werkmeister in 1862 in Bridgeport CT. Peter and Magdalena had 9 children and 12 grandchildren. Their children were Mary (1863-1947), Josephena (1865-1867), Josephine (1868-1946), Emma (1869- ), Caroline (1871-1965), Eva (1873- ), Anna (1876- ), Emma (1877-1947) and a unknown child who probably died shortly after birth. All of their children were born in Bridgeport CT.
