Floyd N. Hanson
Floyd N. Hanson, 69, 1533 McAlister, died Sunday at his home following a short illness.
He was born Jan. 2, 1912, in Clay County, the son of Nels and Ellen Wickstrum Hanson.
Mr. Hanson was graduated from Clay Center High School, and attended the College of Emporia. He received a B.S. degree in education from the University of Kansas, Lawrence, in 1939. He played football at both schools.
He taught and coached football and basketball at Sabetha and Kinsley high schools. He received an M.A, degree in education from the University of Kansas in 1947. He formerly served in the U.S. Navy.
He moved to Topeka in 1946, and coached and taught at several high schools before he retired in 1972 for health reasons.
Mr. Hanson was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Capital Post No. 1 of the American Legion, and Topeka knife and Fork Club, all in Topeka. He was also a member of Phi Delta Kappa, professional education fraternity, Topeka Area Retired Teachers Association, and was a life member of the Kansas National Education Association.
He was married to Katie Louise Young on Feb. 9, 1935, at Lawrence. She survives.
Also surviving is a sister, Mildred Hanson, 4712 W. 6th.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home. Burial will be at memorial Park cemetery. Mr. Hanson will lie in state until service time at the funeral home. Contributions may be sent to Westminster Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund.
